Spring’s first green has a name now, and it’s ‘Abbetina’, a two-piece that channels old-world court dressing through a lens fresh enough for a Saturday garden lunch.
The bodice opens petal-first, a sweetheart neckline that frames the collarbone and softens the line of the neck, lined beneath with gathered mesh for a quietly special finish. Twin shoulder straps are the playful twist here, each one finished with delicate ruching so they read as design, not afterthought. Wear both layered together across the shoulders for something clean and elegant, slip the inner one down as a true strap, or let the second drape along the arm for soft, flattering coverage. Around the bust, a discreet anti-slip band runs the full way round to keep everything exactly where you placed it, all evening.
Behind the bloom, two kinds of boning do the quiet shaping: flexible fish-scale boning where the body curves most, firmer support boning everywhere else, the pairing nipping in the waist and tracing the figure. A metal zip at the centre back makes it effortless to slip on and off.
Then the skirt takes the floor, a love letter to the cinched, full-swept silhouette of the 1950s. The waistband breaks from tradition with a narrow-to-wide cut that dips into a flattering V at the front, lengthening the waist before the volume begins. From there, deep box pleats fall in dense, repeating folds, twice the fabric of an ordinary skirt, cascading into rolling waves that draw the leg line long. Cut to mid-calf with an exaggerated sweep, the pleats catch on the hips to billow into that full, court-worthy fullness, all grace and movement. A concealed metal zip at the centre back of each piece keeps the lines clean.
The bodice is woven from a carefully chosen double-faced floral jacquard, its 39% wool-blend content lending a soft, skin-friendly hand, the raised diamond-textured ground giving sprigs of tender green blooms a sculptural, almost embossed dimension, shadowed in soft grey-violet for depth. The skirt is cut from a substantial matte satin with a fine plain-woven texture, weighty and beautifully structured with a gentle sheen. Both arrive in spring bud green, a fresh, dewy shade with all the new-season hope of first leaves.
• Dry cleaning is the best way to extend the life of your item.
• Hand wash in cold water, using a gentle detergent. Gently and slowly swish the garment then rinse with cold water. Remove excess water by rolling the garment in a towel and gently pressing to absorb lingering moisture. Ensure the garment keeps its shape by laying flat or hanging to dry.
• Use a steamer to get out creases in your item or simply iron inside-out on low heat, putting a cloth between the fabric and the iron.
