Rachmaninoff drifting through a candlelit parlour, a glass of something dark at your elbow: ‘Farewell Rose’ is the dress for the evening that feels like the last scene of a beautiful film.

The halter takes the opening note. A cross-twist knot wraps the neckline and traces a clean line up the throat, drawing the eye to a long, swan-like neck while quietly defining the shoulder line. Turn around for the second movement: a discreetly bared back offers a whisper of drama against the composure up front, poised and alluring at once. The finishing note sits at the nape, where two round ruby-red beaded buttons fasten the halter, their colour echoing the gown so the detail reads refined rather than fussy, a touch of Eastern grace folded into French polish.

Below the waist, a body-tracing fishtail glides over the hips and pools into a fluid hem, following every curve before releasing into easy movement. Side-gathered ruching at the waist lends a sculpted line and gently smooths the midsection, with a concealed stretch panel at the back waist for a forgiving, comfortable fit.

We chose a high-density satin with a hushed, matte glow: its deep smoky-red runs warm and mellow, a red that flatters rather than shouts, casting a low sheen that brightens the skin. A side zip keeps the silhouette clean.

Model is 167cm/47.5kg (Bust 75 · Waist 68 · Hips 84cm), wearing size S.

• Dry cleaning is the best way to extend the life of your item.

• Hand wash in cold water, using a gentle detergent. Gently and slowly swish the garment then rinse with cold water. Remove excess water by rolling the garment in a towel and gently pressing to absorb lingering moisture. Ensure the garment keeps its shape by laying flat or hanging to dry.

• Use a steamer to get out creases in your item or simply iron inside-out on low heat, putting a cloth between the fabric and the iron.
