Pour yourself into ‘Elladora’ and you get the whole 1930s Shanghai fantasy in two pieces, a bias smooth satin slip and a hand beaded silk shawl that does the talking.
The dress arrives in moonlit ivory, a soft focus shade that shifts under every light, hazy and warm indoors, fluid and luminous when sun moves across it. Cut from satin with a gentle sheen that never tips into glare, it settles and drapes rather than clinging, catching the light in soft ripples as you move.
That liquid sheen pools first at the neckline, a deep square cut that frames the collarbone and shoulder line without revealing too much, its pleated straps drawn in for a clean straight shoulder that lengthens the neck. Underneath, a hidden non slip lining keeps them exactly where you place them all evening. Across the bust, layered pressed pleating moulds the satin close to the body for a dimensional fit that never reads thin or flat. From there, diagonal gathers travel along the waist and hip, following the body’s natural curve to whittle the waistline a touch slimmer while letting the fabric breathe.
The skirt falls into a soft A line fishtail, skimming the hip before easing open at the hem, so it sways with every step. The back has the last word: a self fabric satin ribbon that ties into a bow, adjustable to your preferred coverage and a little secret left for the second glance. A side zip keeps the line clean.
Then the shawl, the half that does the talking. Heavy hand beading and lace embroidery scatter raised floral motifs across both front and back, every bead stitched down firm so it glints discreetly rather than shouting. The open, unstructured cut suits everyone and stops right at the hip, skimming over the waist and hipline without cutting your height, while tapered cuffs give the sleeves a drape that floats as you lift your arms.
As a pair, ‘Elladora’ is all hushed 1930s romance, the slip doing the gliding and the shawl doing the shimmering.
• Dry cleaning is the best way to extend the life of your item.
• Hand wash in cold water, using a gentle detergent. Gently and slowly swish the garment then rinse with cold water. Remove excess water by rolling the garment in a towel and gently pressing to absorb lingering moisture. Ensure the garment keeps its shape by laying flat or hanging to dry.
• Use a steamer to get out creases in your item or simply iron inside-out on low heat, putting a cloth between the fabric and the iron.
