The ‘Amorette’ is the kind of dress you find in a forgotten Shanghai film still, slipping through a doorway as the music swells.

It opens off-kilter, and that’s the point. Pleats gather at the left shoulder and melt into a soft cowl, drawn off-centre so the neckline never sits where you expect it, and your collarbone catches the light then quietly disappears. Turn around and the drama follows you: a deep V plunges down the back, threaded with slender ties that keep it sitting securely and trail like ribbon as you move.

Then the sleeves take a bow. Cut long and lean down the arm, they open into a fluted flare at the wrist, satin petals unfurling each time you lift a hand.

The waist is where the sculpting goes to work. A golden-ratio V seam slices the silhouette, and from it three-dimensional pleats radiate across the stomach, drawing the waist in while the spray of fabric quietly skims everything you’d rather it skimmed. An invisible side zip vanishes into the curve of the dress, smooth in, smooth out.

The fishtail takes the story to the floor. Bias-cut and panelled, it falls sleek and slimming when you stand still, then swishes into a mermaid’s-fin arc with every step.

The shade is morning-light pearl: an understated, ladylike cream indoors that catches the iridescence of a shell’s inner curve the moment sunlight hits it. We chose a double-faced satin, substantial at 200gsm so it falls with weight and resists creasing, seamless inside and out so it feels like slipping into warm water against the skin. In motion it gleams like mother-of-pearl; standing still, it settles into a matte, quietly expensive finish.
